If you last did a lap of downtown Hillsdale over the holidays, three of the storefronts you passed have changed hands. A fourth is about to. That is a lot of turnover for a borough where blocks tend to stay put for a decade, and it means the summer 2026 version of a weeknight in town looks different from the summer 2025 version, even before you get to the bandshell or the library.
This is a walk-through of what has actually opened, what is running now through August, and what the construction crane on Patterson Street is going to mean for how the middle of town feels by fall.
The three-block food turnover
Start at the Hillsdale post office and give yourself twenty minutes. Within that radius, three counters have opened or are opening in the last nine months, and each one is a different category.
